All Hands on Deck

All Hands on Deck

One of the things I appreciate about being part of a small church plant is that I know pretty much everyone; and everyone I know feels pretty integral and needed. Small in number often means all hands on deck when it comes to serving in the many and varied ways God is calling each of us to do so. And all hands on deck—serving together—rocks. I’m thankful for the chance to share a few experiences here and a bit about what we’ve learned along the way. Bob, one of our “founding members,” was homeless. Very caring and giving, he literally...Read more …

Jesus 3:12 and Membership

Jesus 3:12 In our last edition of On Q, we announced Q Place’s recently launched strategy called Jesus 3:12 – a name reflective of Jesus’ circles of discipleship in His earthly ministry. He chose the Twelve, but we also see Him interacting the most closely with a small circle of three. He consistently gave them a greater level accountability, transparency, and sharing in the revelation of truth. These three, Peter, James, and John, became core leaders in the earliest days of the Church as the Twelve were empowered to be His witnesses and spread the Kingdom of Jesus in people’s...Read more …
The President’s Corner

The President’s Corner

Our president, Mary Schaller, has been on sabbatical this summer. As we headed into that season back in June, I was rejoicing to see how God had brought us to the time and place when Mary could step away for a time of refreshing and renewal, of seeking God and discerning His direction for the next season of the ministry of Q Place. For me, some of the intensity of the previous months had lifted and many operational pieces were slipping naturally into place. Our roles in the office were clearly set before us and tasks were either clear or...Read more …

On the Radio – Walk the Way

This is Walk the Way. Brought to you by Q Place. I’m Jeff Klein. I recently saw a video of a Southwest flight attendant turning her safety speech into a comedy routine. She said things like, “Flight attendants are coming by hoping you’ll tell them how good looking they are as they make sure your tables and and seatbacks are in their full upright position.” “As you know, it a no smoking, no whining, no complaining flight.” And toward the end, “Just do what we say and nobody gets hurt.” Awesome. Now I confess I’m sometimes that passenger who checks...Read more …
More VITAL Events: Coming Soon!

More VITAL Events: Coming Soon!

After three successful regional VITAL events last winter and spring in Detroit, the San Francisco Bay area and Seattle, Q Place is excited to present two more VITAL events this fall! On September 23, VITAL: Denver comes to Bear Valley Church in Lakewood, Colorado; and on October 22, VITAL: SF East Bay comes to Community Presbyterian Church in San Francisco, California, specifically reaching the greater Oakland area. These one-day conferences provide a great way for participants to catch a vision for Q Place and our ancient/future model of mobilization that is designed to create disciples who feel empowered to become disciple makers...Read more …
To What End?

To What End?

It was the last morning at our rustic, backwoods bed & breakfast in the Colorado Rockies. My husband and I loved this place and were trying to schedule a return trip during the height of the aspens’ fall colors. As we discussed my work schedule, our host, Jim, asked me what I do. I told him I train people to engage in spiritual conversations about life, God and the Bible with people who believe differently. Jim looked me straight in the eye and asked a great question: “To what end?” How would you answer that question? What is the goal...Read more …
ReKindle: Engaging Gospel Conversation

ReKindle: Engaging Gospel Conversation

We are pleased to announce that Q Place and The Billy Graham Center for Evangelism have partnered up to create ReKindle, an evangelism training YouTube channel, to equip and inspire Christian leaders to engage in and inspire others towards gospel conversations. As followers of Christ who have been entrusted to positions of leadership—whether in the marketplace, in churches, in organizations, in communities, or in homes—we must be on a passionate pursuit to engage others in gospel conversations by living lives of authentic gospel witness. Through this series of videos our hope is that you would find your very DNA changing in such a way that the spoken and lived gospel becomes...Read more …
Don’t Run to the Summit Alone

Don’t Run to the Summit Alone

What is our goal as we facilitate a Q Place? Are we trying to convert people? Are we trying to convince them of the truth of Christianity? Exactly how are we helping people in our Q Place find God? When I use my computer to look for the definition of what it means to facilitate, my search turns up this: “to make easier, to make possible, to smooth the way for; enable, assist, help (along), aid, expedite, further, advance, be a catalyst for.” I liken facilitating to enlisting a mountain guide to help you have the exhilarating experience of climbing...Read more …
Q Place – At the Global Leadership Summit

Q Place – At the Global Leadership Summit

An incredibly generous man gave the Chicago based Q Place team tickets to the Global Leadership Summit at Willow Creek. In addition, Jan Teat attended remotely in Fort Wayne, Fran Goodrich in Denver, Susan Burbank in Seattle and Mary Schaller in Spokane. All were galvanized by the world class presenters and came away stirred by the powerful ideas shared. The Chicago Team’s major takeaway was a dominant theme for GLS 2015, centering around the concept of creating a safe organizational and corporate community culture for failure and creativity. Many speakers addressed this issue from a variety of angles, asserting that in an environment of belonging and purpose, of empowerment and...Read more …

On the Radio – Walk the Way

This is Walk the Way, brought to you by Q Place, I’m Jeff Klein. At the camp where I spoke a few weeks ago, one particular student was assigned his own counsellor to accompany him wherever he went. I’m not sure of his disabilities, but clearly he was different. I have a disabled brother so I immediately thought, “I want this student to be welcomed and find a way to belong.” And God made it happen. It was the end of the second chapel and I had just closed in prayer when this young man bolted from his seat and...Read more …
