Pushing Us Toward…

Pushing Us Toward…

In The Tangible Kingdom and Sacrilege, I spent quite a bit of time discussing how a disciple of Jesus must learn to live like He did, not just know things about His life. Our apprenticeship after Him will push us toward a concept I call “whimsical holiness.” First, let me give a basic definition: Whimsical holiness is the ability to hold to personal values of Christ-likeness while being deeply integrated in relationship with people who do not hold your same convictions. I didn’t pull this concept out of thin air. It came after a lengthy walk through the Gospels noting...Read more …

On the Radio – Walk the Way

This is Walk the Way, brought to you by Q Place, I’m Jeff Klein. Have you seen the new Google Commercial? It begins with this: “A question is the most powerful force in the world.” It continues: “A question can start you on an adventure. A question can spark a connection.” And finally, “A question can change how you see the world.” Have you thought much about the power of questions? Have you thought about their power when it comes to evangelism and disciple making? What if Google’s right? What if right now, at this point in history, questions are more...Read more …
A Walk of Joy!

A Walk of Joy!

We’ve all heard Jesus’ command to go and make disciples. But Go where? I assumed I’d have to go someplace far and someplace difficult. So I tried all kinds of different opportunities. I went into Chicago to serve the urban homeless at a soup kitchen. I connected with suburban under-resourced folks at a care center. I tutored kids in a struggling part of the city, an hour’s drive from my home. Each of these experiences was formative and powerful, yet none were sustainable in the sense that I could integrate them into my daily life. I didn’t want to do...Read more …
Ordinary You. Equipped to Make the Shot

Ordinary You. Equipped to Make the Shot

We don’t change markets, or populations, we change people. One person at a time, at a human level. And often, that change comes from small acts that move us, not from grand pronouncements. – Seth Godin We love the big stuff. The star athletes and celebrities. The crowds. The grandiose events. In 2011, well over 24 million people watched Prince William marry Kate Middleton. And that was only in Great Britain! The estimate for global TV viewership of the spectacular 2012 Olympic opening ceremony in London was 900 million people. According to Nielsen ratings, Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014 started...Read more …

On the Radio – Walk the Way

This is Walk the Way, brought to you by Q Place. I’m Jeff Klein. And I’m Pam Klein. Our daughter, Morghin, got her driver’s license this month. And besides wanting to announce to the rest of the world out there to drive extra carefully to protect my baby girl, I also realize it’s time – she prepared, practiced and logged lots of hours to get to this point. She was ready. I’m pretty convinced that when it comes to sharing our faith with others, most of us are just like Morghin getting her driver’s license – We’re ready; and actually more ready than we...Read more …
Overcoming Sharing Paralysis

Overcoming Sharing Paralysis

As I ran errands last week, I blasted Mandisa’s “Overcomer” through the stereo in my Suburban. The windows were open as I pulled up to the library’s drop box. Momentarily aware of myself, I wondered what someone would think if they observed me – after all, it was “Christian” music I was blaring. Later that day, a friend texted me, exasperated with her life. When I asked why she was so upset, she shared that she was stressed about money. It took several exchanges before I worked up the nerve to type, “Have you prayed about that?” And right before...Read more …
Forget the Sales Pitch!

Forget the Sales Pitch!

Most of us have probably been to a used car lot and experienced what happens as soon as you get there: a salesman comes hurrying from his or her little office, hungry for a sale. It’s commission time. You know it and they know it and no matter how much they try to hide it or act natural, it makes you want to run. I wonder if non-Christians feel about Christians what I feel like after going to a used car lot. Does sharing about Jesus have to be this way? Or can sharing your faith become an Art? First,...Read more …

On the Radio – Walk the Way

This is Walk the Way. Brought to you by Q Place. I’m Jeff Klein. In Lakeland, Colorado, Bear Valley Church has hosted an Awana Kid’s Club for years on Wednesday nights. And for years, parents have come, dropped off their kids and headed back home. Until recently. That’s when Pastor Jim Walters decided to invite some of the parents to stay around while their kids went to club. He hosted them, along with some partners, and began simply having spiritual conversations. Toni was one of the parents who stayed around. A single mom, Toni hadn’t experienced too many ‘positives’ with the...Read more …
Not the Way I’d Planned…BETTER!

Not the Way I’d Planned…BETTER!

God’s plans are often different than mine. I have sometimes wondered why God’s plans are so often different than my own! I’ve concluded that it’s one way He lets me know He’s in control—not me—keeping me relying on Him. And although perhaps not what I had planned, despite my wondering why, I’ve learned that God’s way is always better than mine. This has proven true in my experience as a Q Place initiator as well. In the last couple of years, I felt God leading me to start a Q Place at my local YMCA. My friend Mona and I were planning...Read more …
Let’s Get it Started

Let’s Get it Started

I started my first Q Place in 1995, and since then I have had the opportunity to start many more. I’ve had groups in my neighborhood, at a coffee shop, at a home for unwed mothers and in the local YMCA. These past twenty years, others have grown in understanding about faith; and equally as much, my own faith has deepened. My hesitancy has grown to quiet boldness, I’ve learned how planning and prayer go hand in hand and how a simple invitation is a wonderful beginning. Now don’t think for a moment that I am a bold and courageous...Read more …
