Being Normal

Just this week, Q Place President, Mary Schaller, and former Q Place National Field Director, John Crilly, had a blast talking with host Steve Brown on his program, Key Life, about the 9 Arts of Spiritual Conversations. The shared passion of Key Life and Q Place is obvious: the radical grace of Jesus changes how we love and evangelize! Steve Brown wholeheartedly believes that when any one of us experiences the freedom and joy that comes from realizing that “God’s not mad at us,” it’s just plain normal to want to share it! But Steve was especially jazzed with Mary and...Read more …

Ready for a night out?

Summer is the perfect opportunity to jumpstart a connection revival in our neighborhoods. Two years ago, I began being intentional about reaching out and getting to know those who lived around me and discovered that organizing one thing each summer month helped to get things rolling and enhance connections with my neighbors. Can you imagine? Some of them I met for the very first time even though we had lived down the street from one another for as many as 14 years! I bet you can relate. We are living increasingly isolated lives. But even the smallest effort to move...Read more …

This summer, make your own mountaintop.

“I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.” John 15:1-4 (NLT) At Q Place, we know that in order to bear fruit for the Kingdom, we...Read more …
Summertime! Get to know your neighbors!

Summertime! Get to know your neighbors!

What do you think Jesus meant when He said, “Love your neighbor as yourself?” Why not find out by getting to know yours better this summer!  One way to do this is by hosting (or co-hosting with another neighbor) a neighborhood cookout, BBQ or summer fresh dessert night! Here are some tips for your event: If a cookout doesn’t work where you live, make the party or dessert a potluck–everyone will enjoy contributing by bringing something to share. When your guests arrive, give them large nametags. Have them write their name in the center. Then in the four corners, ask them to...Read more …

Coffee and Questions

Coffee and Questions

At our very first Q Place we had five new people from our community come! On our second, four more! We were so excited! God was so good! The following is a story of His faithfulness! In the spring of 2014, a 9-week sermon series on The 9 Arts of Spiritual Conversations was presented at our church. That teaching series was reinforced with discussion and practice in an Adult Discipleship class on Sundays and in an evening small group. During the same time frame, our pastor led a group called “How to Start a Q Place.” Our church was all in for Q Place!...Read more …
Team Up in a Triad!

Team Up in a Triad!

When you’re starting a Q Place, don’t do it alone! You could start with just one partner, but it’s best to team up with two other followers of Jesus. Together you will be an initiator triad—the nucleus of your new Q Place.  Why start with a triad? Strong core. A triad is the perfect size to be both transparent and mutually accountable. When your triad is transparent, accountable, and immersed in Scripture for transformation, you have a community that is perfect for spiritual growth. Mutual support. With your mixture of gifts, skills, and personalities, you will balance each other’s strengths and weaknesses...Read more …

Nothing to share? Not so true.

Nothing to share? Not so true.

Not too long ago, while cooking and cleaning in the kitchen, my daughter, Emily, told me that her pastor was encouraging his church members to write out their faith story. Emily felt God nudging her through him and wrote out some of the lessons that God had been teaching her, little by little, over a 30 year period, starting at the age of 12. She closes her reflections with this scripture: “Let the Redeemed of the Lord tell their story…” (Psalm 107:2) When it comes to sharing the gospel with others, all too often many of us are falsely convinced that we...Read more …
